Superprestige Zonhoven 2014



Kevin Pauwels (Sunweb-Napoleon Games) won yesterday’s second round of this this year’s Superprestige in Zonhoven, after beating Sven Nys (Crelan-AA Drink) in a two-man sprint.

The Crelen-AA rider, once again had to settle for second place, after losing Saturday’s Bpost Bank Trofee Koppenbergcross race with an ill-timed surged for the line – against Wout Van Aert. 

Meanwhile, Lars van der Haar (Giant-Shimano Development) crossed the line 13 seconds behind the two leaders and placed third.

Race Details 

Yesterday’s round saw a few notorious riders shape the race – with Nys, Pauwels, van der Haar and Tom Meeusen (Telenet Fidea Cycling Team) taking the reins.

Nys made a late-race move that looked to have the race sewn, however, a determined Pauwels, dug deep to regain contact with the front rider at the end of the final lap.

From there, Pauwels proved to be the strongest of the pair during the sprint  to the finish line – to take a well-deserved victory. Although it was another second place for Nys this weekend, he didn’t leave the 

Despite losing yesterday’s round, Nys has moved into the overall series lead.
