UK's First Closed Road Gran Fondo Event

The Tour of Cambridgeshire the UK’s first true fully closed

road Gran Fondo and Time Trial Event

A revolution is about to take place in UK cycling and this is your chance to be part of it. Held on fully closed roads the weekend incorporates the first ever authentic continental style Gran Fondo mass participation race and ride on English shores. Whether you want to race or to be part of UK cycling history by having a leisurely ride on closed roads, you can participate and feel the experience of a pro rider.

Kicking off a spectacular weekend Vericool Sports Management are proud to host the first ever UWCT (UCI World Cycling Tour – the amateur world championships where anyone who has qualified can ride for a world championship jersey) qualifying event to be held in the UK. Riders from all over the world are expected to compete in this prestigious event

All events will start and finish in the Peterborough Arena with fully closed roads and a world class start / finish area.

Saturday 6th June 2015 – UCI UWCT Time Trial 28km:

The first ever UCI UWCT qualifier event to be held in the UK. The start and finish will be orchestrated from the spacious Peterborough Arena and travel over a challenging sporting course. There are a few short climbs that transition into a rural route around the villages. There are plenty of straight sections in which to get your rhythm going before returning to a grandstand finish within the showground. Riders will be treated to a stunning and professional start area, ramps, fully closed roads and professional timing.

Sunday 7th June 2015 – Tour of Cambridgeshire Gran Fondo 132km:

The first ever authentic continental style Gran Fondo event to be held in the UK. The event will start and finish in the Peterborough Arena and has a maximum field of 10,000. Either enjoy a fully closed road race or enjoy the freedom of a traffic free mass participation ride over a unique course and unique terrain.

The route is very similar to Belgium with some short sharp climbs at the start followed by the wide open roads of the Fens. There will be two feed stops on the route and the race will be supported with mechanical assistance and medical cover.

This style of racing is totally new in the UK and we have 21 wild card places to give away for the UWCT world Championships which will be awarded based on finishing positions. All riders will be timed using state of the art transponders and their position will be awarded on time.

Behind those wanting to race will be a mass participation event, much like marathon running where the professionals are at the front and everyone else behind, where you can race your friends or simply enjoy a safe day out on closed roads enjoying the countryside.
