Boyd has launched its latest Prologue series of wheelsets, bringing the cost of a premium set of carbon wheels to just $1,050.
The Prologue series consists of three models, a rim brake version that has a 44mm rim depth, and two disc brake variants that are available in 28mm and 44mm profiles.
In order to keep the cost down, Boyd says it used the same tooling and molds from its previous disc brake models, along with uniform spoke beds that can be drilled to spec (24 or 28 spokes), saving on both time and materials.
Other features that highlight the Prologue wheelsets are Boyd’s own Skyuka hubs and Abec 3 sealed cartridge bearings, with rear hubs available with either a Shimano Hyperglide 10/11-speed or a SRAM XDR 12-speed freehub body. Moreover, Boyd says that no tools are required to swap between the different freehub body standards, while all of the wheels are laced with Pillar SR XTRA 1423 spokes and Pillar Double Square Brass nipples.
Additionally, as a means of ruling out compatibility issues, Boyd decided to use a hooked bead design, allowing owners to use any tire they choose, at any pressure.
