Hutchinson Targets Performance and Environmental Sustainability with New Gridskin Tire Technology

Following two years of research and development, Hutchinson has launched a new tire technology called the Gridskin, which targets both performance and environmental sustainability by virtue of extending the lifespan of the tire, while also reducing the manufacturing process.

According to the French brand, the Gridskin technology forms a “knitted mesh” construction that’s designed to reduce external damage by offering greater protection against sharp objects.

Additionally, Hutchinson says the new technology has also streamlined production, reducing the number of manufacturing steps from four to one, along with limiting the amount of waste and emissions generated during the process.

“The objective of the new Gridskin bead-to-bead reinforcement is to produce a superior reinforced tyre. Gridskin improves the tyre’s grip and comfort, allowing lower pressures whilst offering greater resistance to punctures and cuts. Perhaps most importantly, Gridskin’s intelligent design allows for significantly reduced environmental impact during manufacturing,” explains Hutchinson.

Hutchinson has applied its Gridskin technology to its Fusion 5 road and Touareg gravel tires, which are available in the following sizes

  • Fusion 5 Performance Gridskin 700×28
  • Touareg Gridskin 700×40
