Orbea Launches New TERRA “Adventure” Road Bike

It seems more and more roadies are leaving the tarmac these days in search of unpaved roads less-taken. 

As a result, the classic double-diamond road bike has been reconfigured in numerous ways to accommodate a range of different wheel and tire sizes, as well as drive-trains, so cyclists can tackle the rigors of off-road riding while still being able to ride in the drops.

To answer this call, bike manufacturers have been keen to conjured up what they feel is the requisite adventure bike that’s capable of taking cyclists anywhere the landscape will take them.

Orbea realizes this with its new TERRA adventure bike, which culls its design from the Spanish brand’s range of road bikes, especially the new Avant endurance bike, giving it a longer wheelbase and a more relaxed geometry, alongside a revised fork and carbon lay-up process, to lend  more comfort and compliance in key areas where it’s needed.

Equally important, the TERRA has been designed to accommodate tires sizes up to 40mm, to include hydraulic disc brake compatibility and a host of drive-train options including 1X set-ups.

Prices for a complete TERRA start at $2,999, all the way up the range topping Shimano Ultegra/FSA equipped M20iD.

POWER TRANSFER

The large majority of torsional and lateral loads are handled by the lower spine of the frame. The headtube, downtube and chainstays are shaped to resist twisting and transmit power to the rear wheel. There is no doubt about it, large cross-sections and resistance to flex in the bottom of the frame translate directly to more watts on the road and a sensation that power transfer is instantaneous.

MONOCOQUE

Orbea Monocoque Performance (OMP) adds high modulus and high strength fibers to a standard layup to improve stiffness-to-weight ratios. Bladder molding with polyurethane headtube and bottom bracket inserts eliminates wrinkles in critical zones, allowing less carbon to be used while maintaining strength.
