Wilier’s top-tier Filante has undergone a facelift, resulting in a claimed 13.6% improvement in aerodynamics over its predecessor, yielding a 14.15-watt drag reduction at 40km/h, or a 1 minute, 45 seconds faster time over 70km when riding at 290W.
Dubbed the Filante SLR ID2, the new design relies on a similar mix of M46JB, T1100 and T800 carbon fiber, tipping the scales at 860 grams, while bottom bracket stiffness has been bolster by 7.5% compared to the previous-generation model.
Where does the increased aero come from?
According the Wilier, the Filante SLR ID2’s aero gains come from a newly shaped down tube that’s design to shield custom bottles and cages that were developed in partnership with Elite. However, Wilier is keen to point out that the set-up can work with traditional round bottles as well.
Elsewhere, the Filante SLR ID2 is fitted with the Italian brand’s one-piece F-Bar ID2 bar and stem, which features 3 degrees of flare that’s available in 350/380mm, 370/400mm and 390/420mm, while effective stem lengths run from 75mm to 120mm.
The design of the fork also got some “nip and tuck”, courtesy of new blade profiles and a more robust fork crown for increased torsional stiffness. Moreover, an aero fin on the left fork blade leg further enhances aerodynamics by reducing drag around the brake caliper and rotor, along with a blind thru-axle bolt on the right side.
Additionally, the Filante SLR ID2 is treated to Wilier’s vibration-absorbing seatpost that’s found on the Supersonica SLR time trial bike, with set-back options in 0mm or 15mm.
What about clearance?
Thanks to revamped seat stays and longer chain stays, the rear triangle of the Filante SLR ID2 has been opened up enough to accommodate tires up to 34mm, while a UDH dropout assures future -proofing with any foreseeable drivetrain.
The Filante SLR ID2 is available as a stand alone frameset, or with a number of build options that span a SRAM Force groupset, all the way up to a Campagnolo Super Record 13 Wireless.
