Zipp Introduces New SL-70 Ergo Carbon Handlebar

Zipp introduced its new SL-70 Ergo carbon handlebar at this week’s annual Eurobike Show.

According to Zipp’s product manager, Nathan Schickel, the new SL-70 Ergo evolved from the brand’s aluminum Contour SL bar. However, utilizing carbon fiber this time around, meant Zipp could fine-tune the bar’s shape and profile for better ergonomics.

A variable radius drop, combined with a 3 degree backsweep and flattened profile, highlights the new shape of the SL-70 Ergo, thereby shortening the reach to both the brake levers and drops, making the bar more compatible with a range of cyclists who require a number of different riding positions.

Zipp says, the SL-70 Ergo weighs in at a svelte 205g, and is available in sizes 40,42,44cm (centre to center) for $275.00.

Light weight, comfort, and strength: the SL-70 Ergo is the ultimate handlebar for long days in the saddle. The SL-70 Ergo improves upon the flat bar top shape of its predecessor, the Contour SL bar, but also with numerous modern features sought after by riders and pro bike fitters.

The SL-70 Ergo features a 70mm reach and 128 drop. The short 70mm reach has been a popular choice in recent years, as it allows bike fitters flexibility in achieving a comfortable position without sacrificing steering control. The drop now utilizes a variable radius, allowing for multiple hand positions and deeper movement into the drop. As a result, reach to the brake lever is shorter. A 3° backsweep on the flat tops keeps the wrist in a comfortable position, essential for long days on pavement or gravel, while the 10° ramp angle provides a smooth transition to modern shifter hoods. Brake and shifter housing is elegantly hidden along the underside of the bar.

Utilizing the same SRAM Exogram carbon molding technology found in the ultra-light and stiff SRAM RED crankset, and the Zipp SL Speed and SL Sprint stems, the SL-70 Ergo weighs only 205g (42cm c-c), but is strong and durable enough for the demands of aggressive cyclocross and gravel racing. Available in our new Matte White and Matte Black finishes, the SL-70 Ergo looks good on any bike.
