The California-based wheel brand, Inertia Racing Technology (IRT), announced this week, the formation of a new Continental team – called IRT Racing Team.
The new nine-rider team finds stewardship in former Rock Racing and Yahoo Cycling Team director, Haldane Morris, along with former Olympian and pro cyclist Tony Cruz.
IRT Racing Team co-owner Lynn Perrando had this to say in a recent interview with Road Bike Action Magazine:
“We went from sponsoring three elite teams our first year, then six the following year, and it just kept growing each year. We were spending a lot on elite racing and decided partnering with a professional team should be the next step.”
In addition, IRT Racing co-owner, Ray Asanta, said that instead of taking a more traditional approach of sponsoring an existing team, IRT decided to build their own program from the ground up.
“We have assembled a youthful roster, with both up-and-coming young stars and some younger, seasoned veterans,” said Morris. “Our goal is to take this youthful base and develop them into a seasoned team by through the opportunities of competing at International races in Europe, Asia and South America and big races in the United States, such as the US Pro Road Championships, Cascade Cycling Classic, Gila and many others. We have very optimistic expectations of them and expect to be very competitive.”
