Descending the Col de la Madone

Despite the fact that it’s never been used in the Tour de France, the Col de la Madone is one of the most famous climbs in cycling thanks to its status as a test climb for pros including Chris Froome.

The same road is also a stunning descent – we can’t recommend it highly enough. The road starts as a singletrack lane that traverses the side of the hill. This continues for a few twisty kms before you turn left in the village of Sainte Agnes and hit a wider, smoother, road all the way down to Menton.

So, climb the Col de la Madone, but, reward yourself at the top: turn around and descend the way that you climbed. You won’t regret it.
